Mya Williams, 2018

SUNY Albany - Thurgood Marshall Academy

Mya Williams is currently attending the University at Albany, majoring in public health and double minoring in medical anthropology and leadership. During her time in high school, she completed a host of study abroad trips which sparked her ultimate aspiration in life to become a global health analyst for the United Nations or World Health Organization. Her passion is to help and heal people through the hopes of making the world a more sustainable place to live. Over the years she has served in many leadership positions for her university and community. Hence, her being recognized as a 5 time recipient for the University at Albany Dr. Seth W. Spellman Jr. Award and the Purple & Gold Community Service Scholarship Award. 

During her freshman year, Mya proudly shared her platform to change the world amongst other black women throughout her campus and the New York region. Subsequently, she won the annual Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Miss Black & Gold Pageant. 

Fast forward to her senior year in college, Mya has made great strides in her career path! She has served as Treasurer for the non profit organization Girls Leading and Motivating, and Associate Director for the Department of Health and Sustainability. Her most prized accomplishment of all has been becoming Vice President of the University at Albany Student Association. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic Mya has also worked in an urgent care setting, tirelessly providing treatment and assistance to patients. She joined the United Nations Association of the USA, earning the title of Certified Sustainable Leader, where she has been trained to conduct small monthly nationwide conference calls alongside other UN experts on how they can make the world more sustainable. 

After her anticipated graduation in May 2022, Mya hopes to pursue her dual Masters in Public Health and Social Work at SUNY Albany. She aspires to concentrate on maternal and childhood health in underserved communities across the world.
