Cooper Union - Bronx Preparatory Charter School - Butler House

Jairo Sosa was born in The Bronx and raised in the New York City’s Housing Authority’s Butler houses. He graduated from Bronx Preparatory Charter School in 2010.

He studied at The School of Visual Arts in 2010. He continued his studies at The Cooper Union for the Advancement for Science and Art where he pursued his Bachelor’s of Fine Arts and was the recipient of a Full-Tuition Scholarship.

During his time at Cooper Jairo participated in the Art Exchange Program and studied painting, printmaking and sculpture at the Universitat de Barcelona Escuela de Bellas Artes, Barcelona, Spain, in the spring of 2016 before graduating from Cooper Union in 2017.

After graduation, he began working as a teacher and administrator at The Cooper Union's Saturday Program. This program provides free art courses and supplies to NYC public high school students and is designed to reach students with little inthe way of economic or social capital.

In the fall of 2019, Jairo left the program to pursue his Master’s in Fine Art. He is currently a candidate in the sculpture program at Columbia University.
