General Questions

  1. What is the JJMSF mailing address?

  2. How much does the JJMSF award its recipients?
    The JJMSF awards $1,000 annually throughout the recipients' undergraduate years of study.

  3. How many students can be selected as recipients of the scholarship?
    Up to two students can be selected as recipients of the scholarship each year.

  4. Does the JJMSF provide monies for summer school?
    No. Separate awards are not given for summer school. Each award is given for the entire school year; this includes the summer semester.

  5. Does the JJMSF provide internship/networking/job opportunities?
    Our vast network of supporters and scholars bring a number of resources to the table. Recipients are encouraged to network with their fellow scholars and the Foundation does its best to pass on any internship/job opportunities that it may come across.

  6. My question was not addressed in any of these FAQs. How can I contact the Foundation?

Eligibility

  1. Is there a minimum GPA requirement?
    There is no minimum GPA requirement. Past recipients have had demanding high school courses and strong academic records that prepared them to attend and graduate from outstanding colleges and universities. The written response to the application questions, and the interview are considered along with the GPA.

  2. Do I have to be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident to apply for the scholarship?
    You must be a US Citizen to be considered for the scholarship.

  3. I am a high school student. When can I apply?
    You must be a high school senior to apply for the scholarship. The application, related procedures and due dates can be found on the Application page and are also distributed to college advisors.

  4. I am a college freshman. Can I still apply?
    Yes. For the 2015 application year, college freshman are encouraged to apply.

The Application Process

  1. How do I apply?
    Please visit the Application page to obtain a copy of the application. Further instructions are listed there.

  2. I have problems accessing the application. Whom should I contact?
    You must have the latest version of the Adobe Reader to access the application. If you are having further difficulties, please send a description of your problem to webmaster@jjmsf.org.

  3. Is there an application fee?
    No. There are no fees associated with the application.

  4. Can I fax/email my application or supporting documents?
    No. At this time we are only accepting applications by mail. The JJMSF mailing address is:

  5. Do I have to send all my application documents in one envelope?
    The application, written responses, and transcript may be sent together or separately. The Foundation must receive all of the documents by the deadline indicated on the application.

Post Submission

  1. Other than my application and supporting documents, what other criteria are considered?
    After reviewing all of the applications, the written responses, and the transcripts, the JJMSF selects finalists to participate in a group interview. Scholarship recipients are selected from among the finalists who participate in the group interview.

  2. When will I know if I am selected to receive an award?
    Recipients are notified before the last day of the school year. Also, whenever possible, the JJMSF presents the scholarship at the recipent's graduation ceremony.

  3. Will I be notified if I am not selected?
    Yes, JJMSF responds to all applicants and college advisors.

  4. Is this scholarship renewable?
    The JJMSF scholarship grants financial assistance and mentoring for at least four years of undergraduate study.
